EGYPT
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On the 20th September 1918, in Nazareth, this NCO was holding with his troop an advanced position in the town, where they came under heavy machine-gun and rifle fire from houses. When ordered to retire he remained to the very last with his Hotchkiss team, and by the great coolness and determination withdrew his troops under heavy fire but with few casualties
